Learning about insects should be fun and not boring. I believe that insects, science and the natural world are truly fascinating, but many of the scientists and professionals in these fields don't know how to communicate or engage audiences. The goal for my channel is to bridge the gap between these topics while striving to educate and entertain at the same time when possible. I currently work as an educator with the University of Idaho Extension with a focus on adult education, instructional design, entomology and pest management. You'll find a wide variety of videos on my channel. Some are geared for kids and others are geared for adults. My hope is to provide a family friendly and fun channel where kids and adults can learn and grow. Constructive criticism is welcome if you act professionally, but profanities or rude comments will be deleted. Thanks for your time! :)

Mantis probably isn't as experienced, but he did hold his own.
Hey dude Thai people can help this problem
Mantis is flopping worse than every NBA player.
I think the 2nd beetle in this video is what I see coming out of holes around a tree, quite long... and big (in my opinion)... freaked me out... I live in Scottsdale AZ... I dont like to kill creatures, but... Is there a natural way to get rid of them and kill and larvae?
I saw a dragonfly was laying on the bike lane while biking and he look dehydrated i only put him back on the grass only
What a mess. Get educated before you go online. Not a luna chief, female promethea.. It is a tomato horn worm.
I love how expressive these things are
One just landed on me in bed
Got to give you credit dude.
That’s cool, I feel like the moth might be a spirit animal of mine. There’s something mysterious and magical about them. I love the fuzzy legs ❤ I hope to hatch some ❤
Does this work for millipedes? For the A. Gigas
I have two beetle❤🎉
can do this method into my scorpion?
Yes the concept should work, but obviously the process can be quite stressful. The exoskeleton on scorpions are a bit softer in my opinion so don't shake too hard.
In elementary school I catched a dragon fly with my bare hands.
Very nice and cool!
@@InsectHunter thanks
Wasp don't make honey, wasp steal honey from bees
True for some wasps, but there are some species who produce their own.
Thank you, personally I am very interested in bugs and I’ve been wanting to pin them for a while now for artistic reasons. Very good informational video.
CAN YOU LIKE WASH THE BUG BC ITS DIRTY😂
The dirt is strongly adhered through an almost biological glue making it very difficult to remove, plus you don't want to get bitten. So it would be difficult to clean them off.
THE CAT IS MINDING HES FREAKING BUSINESS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What's with the ' suspence ' freaky music..? I do enjoy watching your videos, but cut out the suspence - danger music...
Not so prevalent in the more recent videos.
im only 50 and i forgot i watched this 3 years ago?!!?!!?!!?
ha ha hope you enjoyed it just as much as the first time.
I watched some of your videos and you seem to know a lot about insects. Could you make a series of videos about pest management. Even some experienced farmers struggle against them and most guides on the internet just tell you to buy their sponsored pesticide.
Yeah its a great idea. Pest Management is my expertise, but trying to find ways to make it more interesting to folks. You might try out this playlist as a start: ua-cam.com/video/_dh6jEIn9xM/v-deo.html
@@InsectHunter Thanks!
Closely related to lacewing Have the features of a mantis Pretends to be a wasp Screams "I don't have Dissociative Identity Disorder!!!" Continues believing itself being a spider Tries walking like a crab
Could be honey stolen from bees
Haven't watched the video yet, so I don't know if you've answered it in the video, but why haven't you been uploading anymore?
Just been very busy with creating my board game and other work projects. My full time job is being an extension educator, I teach farmers and the public about insects. I have just been doing more work doing in person classes and such. UA-cam content creation is also quite exhausting.
I once got insect in my marbles!
If you have an insect that’s already dead how do you get it in the right position. You said you killed the roach in alcohol. I have an Asia Forest Scorpion and a few Cucadas I want to cast but not sure how to go about it with them already dead. Thanks.
You need to rehydrate it. See this video here. ua-cam.com/video/mKVlkthwq30/v-deo.html
Those are girl just to let you know
i have a nest in my house lol
I ate human flesh flavored cricket.
Ticks are like Democrats. There is no reason for them to be around.
From the first few seconds I can already see a stark improvement in your presentation and production quality to your previous videos. Good work. Keep it up
Thanks for the kind words.
ewwww
I just found a Bess Beetle with its entire face covered in what I assume was eggs. And def some mites running around. I actually thought its face had been eaten away at first. I felt bad about stressing / torturing it with water and a toothbrush. So glad I did the right thing! It never did make noise but it certainly had impressive chomping strength. When it got ahold of the toothbrush I had to just wait a few mins for it to release. They are VERY strong bugs! I was worried for a min that I toothbrushed off essential symbiotic mites. But not too too worried bc the poor Bess Beetle’s face was totally covered in eggs and it was just walking back and forth over and over.
Yeah Bess beetles are notorious for getting mites stuck to them.
How does the spider not decay?
To identify them you would have to kill them???? I hope you aren’t an entomologist. I identified every single one you showed.
What was the white stuff in the killing jar?
Do you mean the plaster attached to the bottom of the lid? Or the home made one? It is a plaster type substance (usually plaster of paris) that is porous. It allows the chemicals to flow out and euthanize the insects.
They feel good without container ..all winter on home tree eating leaves..What to feed the smal hatchings..they not eat anything..
Hm... not sure if I understand your question. They should eat what the adults eat. Wherever you found them that type of plant should work. Getting them in a container will keep them from escaping and eventually they will eat. Young juveniles seem to like to run/move away quickly to escape potential predators.
Thank you! This was very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Are you kidding me? I freaking hate tick! Gross disgusting little rascals! Northern Minnesota is like the kingdom of ticks. I find 8 million of them on my if I am not watching!
Really enjoyed you vibin' lol it was super endearing ! Look forward to your next video!
Your other insect I Wich is a leaf insect a Is actually female btw
Ha ha yup. Probably not the best idea, but some insects do have CO2 sensors to detect potential predators or prey for things like mosquitoes.
What the heck this channel is cool
Thanks glad you like it!
Ive had a bug in a tin for 2 years It hasnt changed much actually
That's good. Its possible, but not a guarantee. All sorts of parameters can affect the body, temperature humidity sunlight etc... a tin can might be a good way to preserve for a few years.
Wow 👍👍
I know im too late but when u put the risen do u put a small layer first and let it dry a bit before putting the insect on it so it could be settled in the right way on the risen or do i just put it directly i hope someone answer and thanks
You put a small first layer and let it dry to some degree to prevent the insect from sinking to the bottom and breaking the seal. Depending on the temperature/humidity it could be between 20-40 minutes. I would put the insect on once it starts to congeal to some degree becoming like gelatin in texture vs pure liquid.
@@InsectHunter thanks
What kind of aquatic imsects have you collected till now.... Could you please share the details only names....
Never pinned a bug before, but found a beautiful moth (have yet to identify) on a walk while camping about a week ago. I don't expect my pin job to be perfect or for the specimen to be fantastic (having to re-hydrate) but I think it will be a fantastic learning experience for me! I've never been science-minded--humanities student/novelist here--but I'm always, always excited to learn and try new things. Thank you for this video--it was exactly what I needed!
Glad I could help inspire you to enjoy nature and the wonders of insects.
